Codec ID ... DVB-S MPEG -> DivX - Yeah, Divx is relatively inflexible with its PAR/DAR setting. I would just use its square pixel setting then fix it with MPEG4 modifier later. Or use Xvid instead. Just as a reference:
DAR = SAR * PAR
4 / 3 = 480 / 576 * PAR
4 / 3 * 576 / 480 = PAR
1.6 = PAR

From what you discribed (intermittent start and now dead) is usually caused by a fast-swithching diode CR4118 in the switchmode power supply. It is located on the sercondary of the transfromer that supplies 15volts. The diode will check good but under load it will supply less than 13volts caussing no startup. If you'd said you wanted to compare the quality of the audio ON THE CDs, instead of "2 same tracks (lossless)", maybe someone could have guessed what you wanted.... Tool for converting to "Motion JPEG 3.2.4" - MJPEG 3.2.4 appears to be a particular MJPEG codec from MainConcept:

AviDemux , ffdshow , or PicVideo MJPEG codec should work fine.... TMPGEnc convert multiple clips with 29.97 & 25 fps to a dvd - I use TMPGenc xpress to convert rmvb to mpg and then with TMPGenc author to dvd.
Clip 1 & 2 is 29.97 fps while clip 3 , 4 & 5 is 25 fps.
I use TMPGenc xpress to convert it with its fps to mpg.

What fps should I ... Unable to Play DVD Media but plays CD (Philips PET 702P/37) - You can't break your player by trying to make it play DVD data files. DVD players use different lasers to read CD and DVD media, so when this happens it almost always means that there is a problem with the DVD laser. You can try cleaning the lens but if that doesn't work it will require a repair or you'll have to replace the player....
